Course requirements

Conditions for signature:

attending at least 70% of exercise classes + passing both problem solving tests separately (individual threshold: 40 points).

Challenging problems:

Students may volunteer to solve challenging problems related to the lecture or exercise class. The problem to solve is individually defined for the interested student; its level is usually beyond the scope of the regular curriculum. Solved problems will be submitted to the teacher in a report of max. 2 typed pages with figures. Best solutions will be selected for presentation in a 5 minutes time frame during the exercise classes. One student may enroll for a maximum of two challenging problems, earning up to 30 bonus points for each problem.

Tests:

 During semester

 Two problem solving tests

 100 points each

 Exam period

 Oral exam (theory)

 200 points

For every test there is a repeat occasion:

There will be an extra test opportunity in the week after the semester for those who failed one of the tests. On this occasion, one (and no more than one) of the two tests can be repeated for a second time.

Exam:

The theory knowledge of students will be tested at an oral exam. The topics of the oral exam overlap with the curriculum of the lecture. The list of exam questions will be published after the last lecture.

Evaluation:

The threshold for passing the oral exam is 80 points (40%).

The end result is computed from the total score (two problem solving tests, oral exam and bonus points), divided by 4 and marked using the following limits:
