The 3S concept: safety, security and safeguards. The basic principles of nuclear safety. International and national legal framework for the regulation of peaceful use of nuclear energy (EU framework, Atomic Act, Nuclear Safety Codes and related provisions). Nuclear Safety Regulations. Presentation of the activities of the international system of nuclear safety, related activities of IAEA and OECD NEA. Deterministic and probabilistic safety analyses. Safety analysis reports. International assessment of the safety of VVER type reactors, presentation of domestic and international projects launched to assess the level of safety. Comparison with other nuclear power plants. Advanced nuclear safety research. Description of the activities and operation of the nuclear authority; the process of official licensing and control. Practical examples of licensing tasks. Nuclear accident prevention system: institutional background, technical systems, domestic and international practices. Definition and basics of safety culture. Lessons learned from nuclear incident and accidents.
