Grading and course requirements

 

Receiving the course signature requires successful completion of the corresponding tutorial course BMETE15AF24

 

At the beginning of each lecture, there will be a 10-minute quiz based on the material from the previous lecture. Achieving more than 60% exempts the student from the exam entry question; above 70% and 80%, an offered grade of average (3) or good (4) can be obtained, respectively. To earn an excellent (5), a final exam is required.

 

The course grade is determined by a written exam. Students who fail the written exam may retake it orally. In both cases, starting the exam requires answering correctly one entry question chosen from a published list.

 

The written exam consists of basic problems (~55 points) and more difficult bonus problems (~15 points). The pass threshold is 60% of the basic points, while the boundary for excellent is 95% of the basic points.

 

Oral exam procedure: After correctly answering the entry question, the student will be assigned two topics. If their knowledge of either topic is insufficient, the overall grade will be fail (1).

 


Reading material and notes

 

To follow the lectures, the Kibble and Berkshire book is recommended, it tracks the lecture content fairly well, though it does not fully overlap with it, and doesn’t cover continuum mechanics. The notes by Tamás Keszthelyi and János Török are also useful.
