PhD program

The Doctoral School of Physics of our faculty is managed jointly by the Institute of Nuclear Techniques and the Institute of Physics. Each your around 10-15 students start their PhD studies in our doctoral school. They are selected by a strict entry exam. Besides the strong theoretical background the internationally important laboratories ensure the high level of education in solid-state physics, optics, and nuclear technology. The subjects offered by our PhD program includes new research directions of nanophysics, magnetism, superconductivity, surface physics, holography, laser physics, quantum theory, and statistical physics. The applied optics has long tradition at our institute. Besides the nuclear technology specialization we offer a new field the medical physics. Reactor physics PhD program is the only one in Hungary. The requirements of the doctoral school is ensured by the Institutes of Physics and Nuclear Techniques,  by the academic research groups established at our faculty, and by the co-working academic institutes.

Our students may participate in cooperations with noted foreign universities, which is manifested by short or even semester long scientific visits. The PhD dissertations have got to be based on international refereed publications and the vast majority of them is written in English. Our best students get postdoctoral positions on leading universities and many of them return after 2-3 years of experience and become dominant researchers of the Hungarian scientific life.
