Course description:
Introductory course to Electromagnetism and Optics, with special emphasis on the basic physical and mathematical methods and terms.
Static electricity and DC currents: Electric Fields, Gauss’s law, Electric Potential, Capacitance, Dielectrics, Conductors, Electric current, Ohm’s law
Magnetism and induction: magnetic field, magnetic forces, Biot Savart law, Ampere’s law, Gauss’s law, Faraday’s law, applications of the electromagnetic induction
Electrodynamics: displacement current, Maxwell’s equations, propagation of electromagnetic waves, energy and momentum of EM waves
Optics: light as electromagnetic wave, geometrical optics, interference, diffraction
